Dog doesnt’ realise his scenes were cut at this point.
Having been involved in the making of 16 shorts during 2024/2025, 2026 was feeling a bit slow so without trepidation the team was formed. In the past we have specialised in shorts with twist endings mainly with humour and quite a few science fiction. Having won over 20 awards in the past 24 months, we had to throw in an extra challenge – using two cameras. One of them being an Iphone 17 Pro.
The idea being that it would be quicker as we could set one up ,out of shot of the other, for secondary shots. Our main camera the Canon R8 was a bit miffed by this and spent most of its time ignoring the other iphone. The iphone, (which had just arrived) on the other hand was more than happy to take part in every shot and was soon taking duplicates of the R8 shots just in case. However, an incompatibility between the two meant that the editing process became extremely time-consuming. At least we learn and will make sure they are both set correctly next time to work seamlessly together.

Bit of sightseeing before returning home.
With a late return from Manchester to Burnley, where we are based, the exceptional cast was dropped at home. They received the script Saturday morning and filming started at 11.30am. With double shoots and the usual banter between the director, editor and the dog that wanted to be in it, shooting didn’t finish till 6pm.

Actors learning their lines (Byron,Lou,Mary)
Now it was all down to the editor so the actors went home and the director went off to watch Kdrama for a few hours.

On Sunday, the editor started trying to fix the sound synching caused by different settings on the two cameras and also to adjust the colouring. The director then wrote and recorded a short song for the end. Suddenly software programmes would not work with one another and the recording software kept glitching. However, unperturbed Susanda said the song was good enough, (was it though, the dog wondered? Now having realised he was not in the film) and went back to K drama. (Susanda not the dog)
Throughout Sunday, the editor was in the editing booth fighting the lip synching, which we have never had a problem with before, whilst the director kept giving her updated but wrong deadlines to keep her focussed. First it was 3pm then 5pm then 6.30 , 7pm and finally 7.30pm which was the correct deadline.
The film was submitted with 3 minutes to go.
