Folkestone Film Festival launches autumn movie season at Silver Screen Cinema

Three new feature films, three distinct Kent connections, and one iconic art deco cinema – that is the formula for an exciting new autumn season launched by the Folkestone Film Festival.

The showcase will bring two brand-new independent feature films – Man Baby and Misper – to Kent for the very first time, alongside Passenger, a Paramount Pictures horror movie released earlier this year.

  • Man Baby, Friday, September 18, is produced by Ashford filmmaker Syd Heather;
  • Misper, Sunday, September 27, was filmed entirely on location in Folkestone, and;
  • Passenger, Thursday, October 29, was co-written by Ashford-based horror author TW Burgess.

Festival director Ben Barton, who curated the season, said the goal is to celebrate the growing creative community across the county.

“I kept looking at these films and thinking, they’re all new, they’re all really exciting, and they’ve all got these brilliant Kent connections,” Mr Barton said. “You shouldn’t have to travel to London to discover exciting new independent cinema.

“We’ve got filmmakers living and working right here, and films being made on our own streets. Now you can watch them with the people who made them sitting in the cinema with you.”

Hosted at the historic Silver Screen Cinema in Folkestone town centre, each screening will be treated as a special event featuring live Q&As, guest appearances, and interactive talks.

The season acts as a prelude to the main Folkestone Film Festival, which returns for its sixth season from November 6-8.
