Sky Doubles Down on Family Fun: Shaun the Sheep, My Friend Maisy & the Future of Kids’ Entertainment

Sky is giving families across the UK even more to look forward to, with two exciting new original projects headlining its children’s slate — and a refreshed vision for how young viewers will be entertained in the years to come.

Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom Set for 2026 Release

Beloved by audiences around the world, Shaun the Sheep is returning in a brand-new Halloween-themed feature film. Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom will debut in 2026 as a Sky Original, bringing Aardman’s trademark stop-motion charm to both Sky Cinema and cinemas across the UK.

The film sees the Flock’s peaceful farm life disrupted when the Farmer accidentally destroys their pumpkin patch — prompting Shaun to take matters into his own hooves, with hilarious (and slightly spooky) consequences. Complete with a mysterious beast, smashed pumpkins, and a dash of mad science, this special promises a monstrously fun adventure for the whole family.

This marks the third Shaun the Sheep feature film, celebrating 30 years since Shaun first appeared in Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave. It continues Sky’s long-running collaboration with Aardman, following earlier hits like The Flight Before Christmas and The Epic Adventures of Morph.

My Friend Maisy Brings a Classic to Life

Also on the horizon is My Friend Maisy, a colourful new preschool series based on the beloved children’s books. As a Sky Original, this heartfelt show introduces young audiences to Maisy and her world of curiosity, kindness, and friendship. The series blends gentle storytelling with vibrant animation — ideal for early years learning and family co-viewing.

With My Friend Maisy, Sky reinforces its commitment to nurturing positive, age-appropriate programming for younger children. The series joins a strong preschool portfolio that includes The Very Small Creatures, now in production on its third season.

Evolving for the Future

While Sky recently announced a shift in its approach to original children’s content — gradually moving away from commissioning new in-house productions — the platform remains deeply committed to offering high-quality family programming.

Several exciting original shows already in development will continue rolling out through 2025 and 2026. After that, Sky Kids will focus on acquiring standout content from trusted creators around the world, ensuring its young viewers still enjoy a rich mix of inspiring, entertaining, and educational series.

This evolution allows Sky to adapt to changing viewing habits while maintaining the charm, creativity, and family-first values that have defined its kids’ offering for nearly a decade.
